During October 10-14, 2022, MEDFRI (Mediterranean Fisheries Research Production and Training Institute) hosted the Short Term Joint Staff of the GastroFish project “Increasing the empowerment of youth by improving the digital e-learning in GastroFish”, in Antalya, Türkiye. Representatives of the different member organizations of the consortium, including the Yalova University, SUYMERBIR and AKSAM from Türkiye, Innopolis from Greece, CEIPES from Italy and DIDEAS from Spain, participated in the meeting. It was a week full of activities related to the fisheries and aquaculture sector and fish consumption in Türkiye, which included both experiences related to aquaculture, marketing and cooking techniques for its preparation, all under the influence of the MEDFRI experience.
The activities began with presentations of the introduction of MEDFRI, the status of fisheries and aquaculture in Türkiye at MEDFRI meeting hall. All participants were picked up from their hotels by MEDFRI’s service bus and headed to Side to learn how to cook seafood by Chef Mehmet Özen, who is the Masterchef at the Hotel on second day. After workshop group went to Side to watch Fire of Anatolia at Aspendos Ancient Theater to learn more about 3 thousand of Anatolian culture in awesome way. It was dedicated to a tour of the fishing port district of Antalya and old town tour on third day, followed by social lunch in fish restaurant Başoğlu Balık. A visit to the Antalya Aquarium which is the longest tunnel aquarium in Europe to see different type of ornamental fish species, sharks, and sea turtles and the participants received an introductory session of some fish plates from the Barınak Balıkevi by Murat Chef. Chef showed to all participants how to cook Carpaccio, fish kokoreç, and sea bass with almond and sesame on creamed spinach in casserole on fourth day.
