Since 2022, Greece has welcomed thousands of Ukrainian refugees seeking safety, community, and a chance to rebuild their lives after being displaced by conflict. A new campaign by the Centre for Innovation and Culture (Innopolis) highlights the resilience of Ukrainian refugees — especially women and youth — and emphasizes the importance of inclusion, equal treatment, and community integration in Greek society.
The “Ukrainian Refugees: Together in Greece” initiative celebrates the contributions of displaced Ukrainians and calls for a society that embraces diversity, dignity, and opportunity for all. According to recent data, Ukrainian refugees represent one of the most significant displacement crises globally, with thousands finding refuge across Europe, including in Greece.
Key challenges remain, such as language barriers, credential recognition, and access to employment, with many refugees — particularly women — struggling to find work. However, efforts to support educational access for refugee children have resulted in more than 15,000 Ukrainian students enrolling in Greek schools, with specialized programs helping them integrate and thrive.
Innopolis is actively working through the ISRICM‑EU project (Innovative Solutions for Refugee Integration and Crisis Mitigation in EU Member States) to create pathways for social inclusion. One notable effort is the “Pathways of Resilience” cross‑border cultural itinerary, which has connected nearly 10,000 people across Greece, Bulgaria, Romania, and Ukraine — fostering cultural dialogue, shared heritage, and mutual understanding.
The campaign also amplifies the voices of Ukrainian refugees living in Greece, sharing stories of entrepreneurship, community support, and adaptation to Greek life. From starting small businesses in Athens to building supportive networks, these personal narratives reflect determination, hope, and the desire for peace.
